Pride In Place: how you can be involved in the decisions.
The Lowestoft Pride in Place programme now has a chair, Mel McGee, and is inviting people to join the board. This programme is explicitly about local people driving change and telling government what we want to see happen in Lowestoft Central, so it’s really important to engage with it.
Here is what’s written on the tin – from the goverment’s website –
Pride in Place will put decision-making power in the hands of local people to deliver lasting, transformational change in their area. Communities will define their own long-term vision, supported by funding that offers the flexibility to address specific local needs.
We’d like to encourage you to apply to join the board – and if you feel nervous about your qualifications, then just ask yourself:-
“Do I live here ?”
“Do I care about where I live ?”
“Do I want my area to be a safe and healthy place to live? “
If the answer is yes to those questions, you are highly qualified to serve on this board.
The application process

You do not need previous board experience to apply.
To apply, please send a short statement, video or voice note setting out:
- your connection to Central Lowestoft;
- what you would bring to the Board; and
- what you would most want to see happen through Pride in Place.

Our business survey is now complete. We had a good response rate – thank you to all who took part – and we will be publishing the results shortly.

‘Practical Hope’
Launch Event with the TCPA
Hugh Ellis and Celia Davis were launching three new booklets collectively entitled: –
Practical Hope – Inspiration for Community Action.
As part of the event, they brought an analyisis of Lowestoft’s current flood preparedness.
more detail on that will follow as they will share their draft report with us shortly, but a key question posed was: “Is the town able to cope with a reasonable worst case scenario ? ” .
From the figures presented, the answer is clearly no.
