Film and Music events 20th April

We invite you to a day of films, music and activities focussed on our town.

At the United Reformed Church, London Rd, Lowestoft

The Day’s Events…

View some fascinating archive film of Lowestoft from the 1920s onwards. We have put together a selection of footage of the town through the years with the help of the East Anglian Film Archive. The films will be showing from 1.00pm on the day. Admission is free – as for all the day’s events.

From 1.00pm

This is a fun activity for grown-ups and for children that can contribute in a real way to shaping our town’s future. On a giant layout of the town, you can draw what you think the place should look like.

What kind of spaces do you want to see in the town ? What kind of amenities ? What is most beautiful and precious to you about the town as it stands today ? Sketch, draw doodle, contemplate… map your impressions on to the town.

It’s not only a game: We will take the thoughts and images and do our best to see that they are included in the formal planning documents that define the future look and feel of Lowestoft

2.30pm Public Q&A on the Lowestoft Flood Barrier

Much has been said about the recent announcement that Lowestoft’s planned flood barrier project is postponed with no set date to resume. Not much is clear as yet and we’d like to help if we can.

As a group interested in present and future climate impacts on the town, this is of real concern to us and we are doing our share of homework. We’ve invited Hugh Ellis (director of Rights Community Action and Policy director at the TCPA) to host a Q&A and give us his perspective as an independent expert in climate & planning. Hugh took a walk around the town last December to look at the flood defences and you can view that here.

Evening Performance

Hugh Ellis will act as MC and narrator in a show that is at heart a celebration of the history of radical thought and action for positive change. Using song, storytelling, poetry and image, it’s a journey though the highs (and some of the lows) of the journey towards a more equal and sustainable polity and it has some conclusions to draw. It will include local guest readers and there will be time for discussion / Q&A after the performance.
